What is the active ingredient in the treatment? What kind of treatment/agent is used? – The active ingredient is 3-trimethoxysilylpropyloctade-cyldimethyl ammonium chloride. – The treatment used in the Hammer anti-microbial treatment is ÆGIS Microbe Shield technology. How does the treatment specifically work? –The active ingredient in the Hammer anti-microbial treatment forms a colorless, odorless, positively charged polymer that molecularly bonds to the treated surface. Think of it as a layer of electrically charged swords. When a microorganism comes in contact with the treated surface, the C-18 molecular sword punctures the cell membrane and the electrical charge shocks the cell. Since nothing is transferred to the now dead cell, the anti-microbial shield does not lose its strength and the sword is ready for the next cell. Is there any risk of allergy when the treatment is used? –There is no known risk of allergy after more than 30 years of use. Does the treatment have any effect to the flame retardant properties/IMO properties? – The treatment has no negative effect on the flammability properties or compliance with the IMO requirements. How is “permanent treatment” defined? – It will bond to the carpet fibers and last for the lifetime of the carpet. No additional treatment is required - not even after normal maintenance. What kind of maintenance/frequency is the basis for the test/durability? – After 24 extraction cleanings, 89% of the active treatment still remains. What is the additional cost for this treatment? – €2.00 per square meter. How long does the treatment last? – For the lifetime of the carpet. What kind of cleaning is recommended/can harm the treatment? –There are no special cleaning recommendations for carpets treated with the anti-microbial shield. They just have to follow the normal cleaning and maintenance recommendations. – Abrasive and caustic (PH > 10.5) cleaners will shorten the effective lifetime of the treatment.
