He was standing there in Karup airport. Seen through morning lack-lustre eyes, and in offensively good form. Smiling and oozing that indisputable morning energy, matched perfectly by an impeccable titan-white newly ironed shirt. My rolling suitcase which I always draw behind me as a lazy, little dog, was immediately torn out of my hands to be lifted from the ground and carried to the car. We were on our way to ege. My first working day in the world of carpets. The conversation flowed freely. About carpets, woolen qualities and tufting technics. About art and design and about our forthcoming collaboration. I do not remember details, but one thing became bound in me. It sounded something like this: “It is so, Monica, that there is nothing, I stress absolutely nothing, that you cannot try here at ege. There are no trials, suggestions or ideas, however unusual, which we will not help you carry out. You will get all the assistance needed - that is as long as your projects do not demand a new assembly of machinery”. This became the first of many journeys, many long working days in the factory and many ideas which were allowed to unfold and be tried in the finest wool that money could buy. I got the best possible assistance and “Dancers” grew and became many kilometres of carpets in an outstanding variety of, colours and sizes. They are all in my head paintings on canvases of wool. Small, medium and giant - “Dancers”. Some cut and enlarged and organically dancing, others I have formed in precisions in a row. But all simplified and abstract. And then the carpet tiles which are a show in themselves. Namely the idea to have the possibility of creating your own quite personal and unique artistic floor. I am really happy about - and also proud of “Dancers” which have come into being in the finest collaboration with ege who granted me much liberty, shown me complete confidence and backed me up in metres and from wallto-wall.
